Beach & Pool

THE BEACH

Matemwe’s white powdery coral sand beach is the longest and one of the most peaceful beaches on the island.
Relax on a mattress-covered Swahili bed under a palm-leaf parasol and admire the sky and the ocean. Study the villagers’ everyday life – women and children catching fish and calamari, men arranging their boats and fishing gear.

The beach also invites you to a relaxing walk, a jogging tour, a bike ride, swimming and snorkelling or walking to the reef at low tide.
The best snorkelling is at the close Mnemba atoll but even outside the hotel you find spots of corals with a vivid fish life.
If you do a reef walk wear shoes and be aware of the stingy sea urchins and corals.

The tides alternate between high and low in 5-6-hour cycles. The difference between high and low tide is at its highest around new and full moon.
Check the tides at: Tides Zanzibar.

THE POOL

The pool (17 x 8 meters) beside the hotel building is surrounded by a limestone deck with sun lounges and parasols. When you close your eyes you hear the ocean roar from the reef off the horizon and palm leafs rustle in the wind.
